Almost  365  days  have elapsed since  young budding popular journalist couple Golam Sarwar Sagor and Meherunessa Runi were brutally murdered in the bedroom of their rented house in the heart of the capital city . None less than Prime Minister of Bangladesh sated of her government resolve of using all resources to nab the killers and bring them under justice . The Home Minister of that time announced of arresting killers within 48 hours of the incident .Inspector General of Police stated of major progress of the investigation process a few days after that incident . There had been noticeable media coverage of the heinous murder .The friends colleagues and well wishers of the couple in various manners registered protests . People of all political faith and divide strongly condemned the incident and sought  exemplary punishment. Divided journalist community united under one banner and started relentless agitation program. Journalist Beyond the Border and other international journalist bodies, Human Right Organizations expressed repeated concerns . Non Resident Bangladeshis in different countries organized rallies . Face book , twitter and Internet carried out strong opinions of agitated Bangladeshis . But unfortunately even after all these the investigation process remained inconclusive. No clues even could be established in almost a year.
Higher court also expressed concern at the dismal performance of investigation agencies and ordered RAB to carry out the fresh investigation . Higher court also gave some guidelines to Ministry of Home for supervisory monitoring. The dead bodies of the deceased were dug out again for fresh autopsy and assist in DNA tests and establishing links with some suspects. DNA tests could be carried out in Bangladesh. Still these were sent to USA. Home Minister was changed. New Home Minister tried to dramatize the matter. Some ordinary criminals were arrested as suspects . New Home Minister made some dramatic media announcements. He avoided pointe3d questions of making a new Gorge Miah Episode.Nothing changed . No clues established . The real killers and the mastermind remains at large and according to many remains protected .
Sagar started his career as journalist in Bengali dailies . Later he established an online Energy Magazine Energy Bangla . He also worked for some years in German Bangla Radio in Germany.. Runi came to this profession as TV reporter. Her specialty was crime reporting. But she covered many programs of the present Prime Minister even when she was leader of the opposition. Sagar married Runi and a very loving son Mahir Sarawr Megh was born to them. The couple lived in Germany for some years where the couple for their amiable behavior developed friendship with many.. On retrurn from Germany Sgar joined Square Group owned private TV Channel Machranga as News Editor and Runi returned to her job in another private channel ATN Bangla , This couple were very poluar budding journalists and did not have any known enmity with any individuals and groups.  They were truly commuted and honest . Perhaps their honest journalism could have antagonized corrupt evil syndicate who wanted to silence these strong voice.
Some rumors took wings after the incident. Some thought that some leading business groups having strong links with ruling party was feeling insecure about some findings of Runi which she wanted to telecast in ATN Bangla . Being refused the same was almost going to be telecast in Machranga TV. Rumour was there that having failed to persuade and pressurize the couple the killers on instant instruction of the plotters murdered the couple .There were rumours that the principal plotter was allowed to escape .Some rumors sometimes have some basis .
Anyway ATN Bangla Chairman at some stage created some controversy bring on aspersion on the character of his employee Runi. This was vehemently protested by all quarters. United Journalists community urged upon government to bring ATN Bangla Chairman under justice as some of his controversial statement evidenced his knowledge into the incident. The investigation agencies had friendly chat with him on some occasions..
RAB , the investigating agency instead of quizzing ATN Bangla Chairman as one of the suspect went on a controversial mission of counselling minor surviving son of the couple Megh . This traumatized boy is viably scared from anyone wearing black dress.
Time is flying past . It is now getting clear that some very powerful lobby from behind the scene is hindering fair and transparent investigation process. The real suspects and killers of some other murder cases before and after Sagar Runi incidents were arrested and brought under trail. But no substantial progress achieved in Sagar -Runi case. A more sober Minister of Information Hasanul Huq Inu expressed solidarity with agitating Journalist group on some occasion on the matter. But nothing is happening.
Perhaps Government is thinking that like many other major incidents of killing people will son forget this incident. But this may be grossly wrong. People will definitely remember this along with other issues while voting in the next general election. Opposition may  also make it an issue . If for any reason present ruling party can not win election some senior policy makers may be held responsible for mismanaging the incident.Sagar-Runi incident.
For us the well wishers of the couple we will wait till eternity and will continue pursuing the matter to the best of our ability. Prime Minister could see the trail of the self confessed killers  her parents and other members of her family after she became head of the government for a second term. Will Megh have to wait to grow enter politics and organize fair trail of his parents killers?
