The protesters at Shahbagh have stepped back from their continuous daylong demonstrations and announced to hold seven-hour protest rallies everyday at the ‘Prajanma Chattar’.
Shahbag
protesters urged all to hoist National Flag with National Anthem in all
school-college-madrashas at 10:00am Sunday (Feb 17).
The announcement came at the
‘Jagaran Samabesh’, or the Uprising Rally, in Shahbagh February 15.
The protesters
at Shahbagh intersection continued their sit-in for the eleventh straight day
demanding death penalty of all war criminals including Quader Mollah.
Thousands of people thronged at Shahbagh
intersection expressing solidarity with the demand.
They rendered different slogans from the main
stage of protest demo demanding capital punishment of collaborators of
Pakistani Army during liberation war.
Jahangirnagar University Vice
Chancellor Anwar Hossain and Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) President
Prof Abul Barakat were present on the dais.
On Thursday evening, millions of people across Bangladesh observed a candlelight
vigil in an extraordinary show of solidarity for the Shahbagh movement.
The protests started at Shahbagh intersection Feb 5 within hours of the
International Crimes Tribunal-2 pronouncing the life-term verdict for
Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdur Quader Molla. The protesters termed the punishment
‘too light’ compared to Molla’s crimes committed during Bangladesh’s War of Independence in
1971.
Since then, hundreds of thousands of people from all strata of the society have
expressed solidarity with the young men and women at Shahbagh by joining the
movement as it spread all over the country in demand of death to all war
criminals.
