The King of Bhutan has said that Bhutan is keen to export energy to Bangladesh .
Opposition leader and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on February 16 made a courtesy call on King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck at Sonargaon Hotel when Queen Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck also was present.
After the meeting, Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury briefed waiting journalists about the outcome of the nearly one hour-long meeting.
“The different issues of bilateral interests of both countries were discussed in the meeting. Especially, the BNP chairperson discusses the import of energy from Bhutan ,” Shahmsher said.
He also said the King expressed that before importing the energy from Bhutan , the Bangladesh government will have to develop the country’s overall infrastructure.
Shamsher Mobin also informed that the King invited Khaleda Zia to visit Bhutan as personal guest of the King and the Queen.
They also discussed Khaleda’s recent visits to China and India .
The Emperor and the Queen arrived in Dhaka Thursday on a six-day private visit.
Khaleda Zia was accompanied by BNP acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, vice chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, Riaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed.
