Management Environment Finance SRL Ltd, an Italian company will set up two separate power plants for generating 100MW electricity based on Solid Waste at Amin Bazar and Mautal in Dhaka .
The government on February 18 signed an agreement in this regard. Under the deal, agreement the Italian company will invest $ 300 million for the construction of two power plants based on solid waste, which will also create at least 2,000 employments. Each plant will generate 50MW electricity.
Under the agreement the Italian company will start supply of power to the national grid after 36 months from the date of agreement.
The Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) Limited, Dhaka Power Distribution Company Limited (DPDC) and Rural Electrification Board (REB) will purchase power from MEF at Taka 8.75 per unit (kilowatt-hour) for the next 20 years, according to the agreement.
Additional Secretary of Local Government Division (LGRD) K M Mozammel Haq, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka City Corporation (North) BM Enamul Haq, Chief Executive Officer of Dhaka City Corporation (South) Ansar Ali Khan and Cosimo, co-chairman of Management Environment Finance SRL Ltd signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides at the conference room of the ministry of LGRD.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Muhammad Enamul Huq, state Minister for LGRD Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak, local government division secretary Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan, power secretary Monowar Islam, Economic Relations
Division (ERD) secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present at the signing ceremony.
