Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation is going to import over 20,000 tonnes of lubricant base oil from India to meet local demand, BPC officials said.
The growing shortfall of lubricants in the country and the problems in procuring lubricant base oil through tender, prompted the BPC to take the move for its procurement from the Indian Oil Corporation, they added.
The BPC will send a three-member delegation to India , headed by its chairman Anwarul Karim, on June 14 to negotiate with the IOC officials for procuring the base oil, a raw material of lubricants, the officials informed.
The other two members of the delegation are director (operation) of the BPC and its secretary.
‘We want to import lubricant base oil directly from India . So we are going to that country to negotiate with the IOC officials,’ said the BPC chairman Anwarul Karim.
‘Earlier, we had procured this base oil from different sources through tender process, which were cumbersome as well as time consuming,’ he added, saying that sometimes the supplies were delayed and question arose about its quality.’
That is why the move has been taken for procuring the base oil directly from the India ’s state-owned IOC without engaging supplier through tender process, he added.
He said, ‘If the negotiation is satisfactory, we will strike a deal with the IOC on procuring the base oil.’
Earlier, the base oil was mostly procured from Singapore and Thailand .
