50MW solar power plant to be set up in Khulna

The Tk1,328.90-crore project will be implemented by a joint venture of companies based in Singapore and Panama

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved a total of five proposals in the power and energy sector including one for setting up a 50MW (AC) solar power plant at Terokhada upazila in Khulna.

The approval came at the 32nd meeting of the committee this year held virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that a total of 12 proposals were approved in the meeting.

The joint venture of Hero Future Energies Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore and Business Research International Corporation Inc (BRIC), Panama would implement the work for setting up the solar power plant with around Tk1,328.90 crore under the Power Division.

The tariff per unit of kilowatt-hour electricity will be $0.1025 or around Tk8.20.

Shamsul said following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, the Chinese XMC-CMC Consortium has been appointed for a six-year term to extract coal from Boropukuria Coal Mine in Dinajpur with around Tk1,049.49 crore.

In response to another proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) would procure some 33.60 lakh MMBtu LNG from the spot market for Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore with around Tk1,002.37 crore.

The Cabinet Division Additional Secretary said that the CCGP meeting approved another proposal from the Power Division under which Ideal Electrical Enterprise Ltd, Bangladesh would conduct the work for setting up six power substations with necessary machinery on a turn-key basis with around Tk65.07 crore under the Lot-2, package No-GD-1 of the project titled “Development of Power Distribution System, Mymensingh Zone”.

In another proposal from the Power Division, M/S J&C Implex Ltd, Dhaka would ensure the procurement, installation and expert services for the Gas Turbine and Hot Gas Path Inspection with around Tk102.94 crore under the project for setting up Sikalbaha 225 MW power plant in Chittagong.

Following a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) would procure 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertilizer from Kafco, Bangladesh under the fourth lot with around Tk109.33 crore.

Besides, the Ministry of Food would procure some 50,000 tonnes of wheat from Agrocorp International Pte Ltd, Singapore for the current fiscal year with around Tk179.53 crore where the price per ton of wheat would be $421.19.

The day’s CCGP meeting approved a proposal for awarding the contract to MM Builders and Engineers Ltd for implementing the package No-WD-05 with around Tk147.24 crore under the project for upgrading the remaining part of Kushtia town portion into four-lane on Jhenidah-Kushtia-Pakshi-Dashuria National highway.

Following a proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division, the meeting approved a proposal for awarding the contract to Mazid Son’s Construction Ltd, Dhaka with around Tk153.67 crore for constructing a 20- storey Science Building under the project for the development of physical infrastructures at Rajshahi University (first revised).

Besides, the meeting approved three other proposals from the Secondary and Higher Education Division under which the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) would procure textbooks for various classes from different suppliers.
