Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company (Pvt.) Limited (BIFPCL) organized football tournament as part of its community development initiative in adjacent areas of the project site at Rampal, Bagerhat through community involvement. Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, handed over the Champion’s Trophy to Ujalkur Union Football Club, the winning team of the Maitree Football Tournament on 22 June, 2019.
Earlier, Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation attended the final match program of Maitree Football Tournament as chief guest while Habibun Nahar, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change attended the function as special guest. Project Director SC Pandey and Deputy Project Director Md. Rezaul Karim of Maitree Super Thermal Power Project of BIFPCL along with UNO, Rampal, Tushar Kumar Pal and other officials attended the function. G.M Tariqul Islam, Deputy Manager, BIFPCL conducted the program.
A total of 10 football clubs from 10 union parishads of Rampal Upazila participated in the tournament. Officials from local administration and project officials attended the program. A huge number of rural people enjoyed the matches. This initiative was lauded by the villagers as it has supported them specially the youths to promote rural traditional sports.
