The final report of water modelling and hydro-geological survey on Barapukuria coal mine says open-pit mining is possible there. The government has planned open-pit coal mining at the northern part of Barapukuria coal field in Dinajpur to use the extracted coal in power plants. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) today approved the 1,200-megawatt Matarbari coal-fired power project worth Tk 35,984 crore. A gas explosion at a coal mine in eastern China has killed at least two miners, and rescuers searched Wednesday for 25 more workers missing in the blast, state media reported.
