The cabinet Monday approved the draft of “The Nuclear Power Plant Law, 2015” subject to the vetting of the Law Ministry aimed at construction of the country’s maiden Nuclear Power Plant at Rooppur in Iswardi, Pabna. The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. “Orgenergostroy”, a Russian based company won the tender and will conduct engineering survey, monitor the environment and develop project documents for the Rooppur NPP site. The work is expected to be completed by September 15, 2015. Russia-Bangladesh workgroup of joint coordination committee for implementing Bangladesh nuclear power programme has adopted action plan for nuclear infrastructure development in Bangladesh for next two years.
