At a formal reception held at a local hotel on September 15, Chevron Bangladesh was recognized by the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as the highest corporate tax payer for the consecutive fiscal years of 2010-2011 and 2011-2012. In accordance with the National Tax Card Policy 2010, 20 recipients in individual and company categories were presented with a ‘Tax Card’, providing special amenities and privileges. These include special invitations to different state events and priority reservation in public transport in rail, air and sea routes. The same honour was bestowed on Chevron at another ceremony last January, on that occasion for the 2009-2010 fiscal year.
Chevron was represented by Ismail Chowdhury, Director, Production Sharing Contracts & Government Affairs, and Finance Director, Peter Lynn. Held to commemorate National Income Tax Day 2013, Chief Guest at the event was the Honourable Finance Minister of the Government of Bangladesh, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, while Special Guest was the President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI), Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed. The ceremony was hosted by Secretary, Internal Resources Division, and Chairman, National Board of Revenue, Md. Ghulam Hussain.
In addition to awarding the privileged Tax Card to the top taxpayers of the country who have paid the highest amounts of tax, the ceremony also felicitated the highest and long-term taxpayers from Dhaka Division (with the exception of the tax zones of Mymensingh, Gazipur and Narayanganj).
Producing about 50% of Bangladesh’s natural gas, Chevron is now the nation’s single largest producer. It is already Bangladesh’s highest foreign investor, having invested over $1.2 billion to date.
