The country’s power transmission capacity has increased by about 3500 MW in last one year.
State-owned Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) in a statement informed this saying that in the year 2017, five new grid substations were built, capacities of 20 grid substation were expanded and 386 circuit kilometer transmission lines were constructed and brought into operation.
These projects increased the PGCB’s transmission capacity by 3983 MVA (megavolt amperes) and the organisation has been able to transmit additional 3,585 MW of electricity to the national grid, said the statement.
The PGCB noted that a total of 1,247 MW of electricity was added to the national grid from 7 newly installed power plants and also through import of 60 MW power from Tripura of India in last one year from January 1 to December 31, 2017.
The new power stations are 108 MW, Keranjgani (Basila), 360 MW Bheramara, 450 MW Ashuganj, 163 MW Kushiara, 3 MW Sarishabari 3 MW solar plant, 100 MW Chapainababganj and 225 MW Shikalbaha power plant.
Of the newly built 5 grid substations, two substations, each having 400/230 kV capacity, was installed in at Kaliakoir in Gazipur and Bibiyana in Habiganj while one 230/132 kV grid substation was set up in Bheramara, one 132/11kV substation at Rooppur in Pabna and one 132/33 grid substations was built at Amnura in Chapainababganj district.
The new transmission circuit lines were installed in the areas including Aminbazar-Kaliakoir-Tongi, Bheramara substation to HVDC station, Khulna-Satkhira, Tangail-Mymensingh (RPCL plant) and Amnura-Chapai are.
The PGCB said that it has 10,635 circuit kilometer transmission lines and 113 grid substations across the country. It has been able to reduce its system loss to 2.67 percent from earlier 2.86 percent.
