Eight Power Plants Under Implementation: Nasrul Hamid

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid wednesday said there are eight power plants having 5,925-MW generation capacity in the public and private sector are now under implementation in the country and the plants will be completed in phases from 2018 to 2021.

The state minister made the disclosure while replying to a question
from treasury bench member M Israfil Alam in the Jatiya Sangsad.

Nasrul said the government has undertaken various initiatives to
install new power plants based on different energy for meeting an
increased demand for electricity in the country and coal-fired plants
would be installed under the initiatives.

Construction of four power plants with 2,071-MW capacity in the public and private sectors are under tender process at the moment and these plants would be implemented from 2021 to 2023 in phases, he said.

Besides, the state minister said the government has a plan to construct four power plants having 4,800-MW capacity. The authorities have undertaken a plan to generate 3,168- MW electricity from renewable energy sources by 2021, he added.

Of which, 1,740-MW would come from solar energy, 1,370-MW from wind
power, 47- MW from biomass, 7-MW from biogas and 4-MW from small scale hydropower, Nasrul informed the House.
