India-Bangladesh Friend-ship Power Company has signed a contract, for designing a 1,320MW coal-based power plant, with the German company M/s Fichner GMbil KG Stuttgart at Bidduyt Bhavan on Thursday.
Tawfiq-e-Elahi (BB) Chowdhury, advisor for energy to the Prime Minister, State Minister for Energy Nasrul Hamid, MP, Monowar Islam Secretary of Power Division, Chairman of Power Division Abduhu Ruhullah , India-Bangladesh Friendship Power Company Managing Director Bijy Shankar Tamrakar, M/s Fichner GMbil KG Stuttgart Director Kearl Peter were present at the signing ceremony. First unit of Rampal Power Plant will start generating power in 2018. Contractor and engineer recruitment process is going on and tender will be floated at the end of the year.
The Sundarban will not be affected by the coal-based power plant because the plant will be using an ultra-super critical technology. This is the best technology in the world for this kind of plant, said Nasrul Hamid.
The consultant for importing coal will be recruited soon.
