LNG Terminal: MoU signed With Indian Petronet

A land-based LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminal is about to be built on the island of Kutubdia, Cox’sbazar. Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation which is also known as Petrobangla has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Indian energy company named Petronet to setup this LNG infrastructure.

According to the agreement, the capacity of the terminal is expected to be 7.5 MMTPA (1,000 MMSCFD) at an expected project cost of $950 million. Petronet is likely to run a feasibility study on the LNG terminal initially.The project is expected to be completed within four years with a plan for future expansion, claimed the related sources.

Prabhat Singh, managing director of Petronet LNG, India’s biggest gas importer, and Syed Ashfaquzzaman, secretary of state-run Petrobangla, signed the MoU at the Petrobangla office in Dhaka.

Harsh Vardhan Shringla, Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, and Nazimuddin Chowdhury, energy secretary of Bangladesh, were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.
