The power division has lifted the three-year old condition of setting up solar home systems (SHSs) at the rooftops of the buildings to get new electricity connections.
The Power Division withdrew the condition, as per recommendation of Power Cell, an extended hand of Power Division at a meeting at Power Division. State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid chaired the meeting at Biddyut Bhaban in Dhaka on 12th may.
The government on November 11, 2010, request to install solar home system with capacity up to two kilowatts or above at the rooftops for getting new electricity connections for residential, commercial and industrial purposes. But officials made it mandatory.
Officials said, Now solar is not mendetory for the news power connection but if costomar wants, they can set solar. As per the decision of the meeting, the Power Division would also send a proposal to Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) to raise fund for Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) from electricity users. They added that the Power Division is yet to fixed the amount to be charged from new consumers for electricity connection.
