PGCB Leases 3600km Optical Fiber To BTCL

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) leased 3600 kilometers of optical fiber cables to the Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) for the next 10 years.
PGCB company secretary Md Ashraf Hossain and BTCL secretary Asaduzzaman Chowdhury yesterday signed a deal on behalf of their organisations at PGCB office.
As per the deal, the PGCB would earn Tk 15.06 crore a year from BTCL.
PGCB now uses its optical fiber to maintain the national grid as well as communications for its protection.
BTCL has also an optical fiber link but it wants to use PGCB’s 3600 kilometers optical fiber as alternative link besides its existing link.
This agreement would help BTCL make its internet data services, voice communications more flexible, BTCL officials said. In 2008, the BTCL took lease of 409 kilometers optical fiber from PGCB.
PGCB managing director Masum Alberuni, executive director (P&D) Chowdhury Alamgir Hossain, Superintendent Engineer (optical fiber leasing) Md Fazlul Bari, BTCL member (P&D) Kabir Hossain Bhuiyan, Member (finance) Dr Abu Sayed Khan, general manager (transmission) Md Shahidul Islam and other senior official concern attended the signing function.
