The state minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said that, the price of electricity for per unit would rise by 30 to 35 paisa. He said so while talking to the newsmen at the meeting room of the Power Ministry at the Secretariat.
The state minister said that, the price may not be hiked if the government allow the Power Development Board (PDB) to import fuel oil directly at an affordable cost. However, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) will finalize the decision of price hike after a public hearing that is to be held on 25th September.
Nasrul Hamid said that, the whole country will be brought under 100 percent electricity coverage within the December of 2018. He said that, the fallen electric tower of Meghna is not fixed yet which is responsible for some load-shedding in some districts, otherwise the load-shedding condition in rest of the parts of the country was satisfactory.
He also said that, the government is working on to add 3,000 MW of more power within the next year.
