For the first time ever, Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is going to hold a public hearing session for lowering the price of power.
The public hearing session on lowering the power price is to be held on 5th October at the TCB bhaban of the city.
The public hearing session is fixed by the BERC in response to a written application from Consumers Association for Bangladesh (CAB).
Mass people are used to see perpetual scenario where the state-owned power, energy related authorities are proposing for raising the price. But this time CAB has proposed for an opposite demand of lowering the price of power and BERC accepted that.
The energy advisor of CAB, Prof Dr Shamsul Alam said that, the price of bulk power can be reduced by Tk 1.26 by reducing the cost of power generation. CAB will be justifying its theory in the coming hearing session. However, Power Development Board (PDB) has already proposed for a price hike of Tk 0.87 per unit for the bulk power.
