Rampal Power Plant: Commercial Production On 25th November

The construction of Unit-1 of Maitri Super Thermal Power Plant at Rampal in Bagerhat has been completed. Experimental power generation is underway. Commercial production will begin on November 25.
Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) Managing Director Engineer Syed Ekram Ullah told Energy Bangla, that the first unit is fully ready to generate 660 MW of electricity. The Power Development Board (PDB) has given the time to start commercial production on November 25. After starting the production from that day, the entire production can be started gradually within two to three days.
Power generation from the first unit started on August 15. On that day, 91 MW of electricity was generated and supplied to the national grid.
Coal is being imported from Indonesia for the Rampal power plant. Bashundhara Group is privately importing this coal. This power plant will run on coal imported from Bashundhara till next January or February.
Tenders were invited for long-term supply of coal. Several companies including Bashundhara Group, Akiz Group have submitted price proposals for coal import.
Sources in BIFPCL said that evaluation of their bid proposals is in progress.
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated this unit.
This power plant will produce 1320 megawatts of electricity in two units of 660 each.
