Rooppur, Pabna, October 2, 2013: Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) has signed an agreement with NIAEP, Management Company of Russian Atomstroyexport for developing the engineering design for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
In presence of Sergei Kirienko, Director General of Russian State Energy Corporation – Rosatom, HE Alexander Nikolaev, Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, ASM Feroz, Chairman, BAEC and Valerei Limarenko, President NIAEP signed the agreement today, October 2 at the Rooppur NPP site. High officials from both the countries were present, among others, on the occasion.
Under the agreement NIAEP will develop an engineering design for the construction of Rooppur NPP on the basis of survey reports. Earlier on June 27, 2013 BAEC signed a deal with NIAEP – ASE for conducting preconstruction studies, including feasibility study, environment impact assessment (EIA) and site engineering survey.
The third agreement of the preparatory phase for initial construction and installation works is expected to be signed in near future and which will pave the way for entering into the main phase of project implementation.
NIAEP – ASE is a subsidiary of Rosatom, who will build the nuclear power plant at Rooppur, having two units each of 1,000 MW capacity. Rosatom is presently engaged in construction and installation of nuclear power plants in China, India, Vietnam, Taiwan and Iran in Asia and also in some European countries.
