To Save Sundarban National Committee Long March tomorrow

National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports will start its five day Dhaka-Sundarban Long March tomorrow (Tuesday) to press scrapping the Rampal Thermal Power Plant project including its seven point demand.
The National Committee called on the Awami League-led grand alliance government to scrap the project to save the Sundarban, the largest mangrove forest in the world.
Anu Muhammad, the member secretary of the national committee, said the Indian company would benefit much from the proposed plant.
He also demanded scrapping of modified Model Production Sharing Contract-2012 under which the government is going to lease the offshore gas blocks in the Bay of Bengal to the international oil companies.
Energy security of the country would be at stake if the Rampal plant is installed and the offshore gas blocks are leased, he added.
The 400 kilometers stretched long march will start after a rally in front of the National Press Club at around 9:00am and take a stop over at Manikganj. It will hold rallies at Savar Rana Plaza ground zero, Jahangiragar University and Dhamrai. Then the march will reach Faridpur on September 25, hold rallies in Goalanda and Razbari Sadar. It is scheduled to reach Jessore on September 26, hold there numerous road side rallies.
The long march will reach Khulna on September 27 and finally it will hold the concluding rally at Digraj, Sundarbans, where the Sudnarbans declaration will be adopted.
The marchers will start their journey with buses and some cultural troops will hold dramas, songs and mobile expeditions.
