Third contract for Rooppur NPP likely in May

Rosatom expects to sign with Bangladesh the third and final contract for preparatory phase for construction of Rooppur NPP in coming May. This was disclosed by Valeri Limarenko, Director General of NIAEP-ASE, sister concern of Rosatom, Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation while talking to reporters in Moscow recently.
“The already singed contracts allow us to prepare the design of the plant and for which we are conducting on-site survey” said Limarenko. “Currently we are in discussions for the 3rd contract. After the deal is signed, we will start working with the Ministry of Finance for the credit line”, he added.
Final contract of the preparatory phase will be for construction and installation works before the “first concrete”. The total amount of all three contracts would be around $500 million, to be given as credit to Bangladesh by Russian Govt.
Project drawings and specifications will create the base for licensing of the proposed Rooppur NPP.
Rosatom will design, build and operate two units of Rooppur NPP with VVER technology. Each unit will have an installed capacity of 1,000 MW.
