Ek Idea Te Bajimaat

Idea Hunt by Power & Energy Division

EB Report

Stealing electric transformers and their parts from electric poles is a common scenario in this country. Lack of proper security is causing this kind of theft which causes financial loss to both the layman and the government. Imagine if there were a system that could alert the nearest police station if someone unauthorized reach close to the transformer or the transformer itself could report about its fuel level and could seek for its own fix timely, then the problems would be solved forever, right?

Fortunately, such a device is already developed by a Bangladeshi student and the idea won this year’s title of “Ek Idea te Bajimaat”, an inventor or idea hunting program conducted by the division of power and energy. Fazle Elahi, the inventor of the transformer security system won an 1 lac taka as the prize.

The division sources claimed that, the inventor or idea hunting program started in November, last year and the idea collection process lasted until January this year. Students from all over the country joined in this competition with their creative ideas and products. The division selected 100 ideas primarily and organized boot camp to nurture the ideas properly.

Tajidul Islam secured the first runner-up position in this talent hunt competition for his solar bag project. Around 63 percent of our people are villagers and among them, many have no access to electricity. Students from those areas have to study with the light of hurricane, which is not good for the eyes of the children. Tajidul made a school bag that is equipped with a solar panel and a battery. The battery will be charged using solar energy while the students will be going or coming back from school. The battery will be used to power up a led bulb adjacent to the bag which will help the students to study at night times. Tajidul got a 50 thousand prize for his idea.

Abdullah Al Zahid and his teammates won the second runner-up position in this completion. His idea was to generate electricity from moss. Moss is easily available and grows well in moist weather like Bangladesh’s. Moss has proven to be one of the best sources of energy in terms of capacity, cost and availability. Countries like Canada, USA, Germany, France, and Italy are already utilizing moss to generate electricity on a large scale. His technique to generate electricity was very simple and affordable which secured him a 25 thousand prize in this competition.

The state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid addressed at the program and handed over all the prizes to the winners of the competition. He said that, these young creative minds are the future leaders of the country; they need to be trained and patronized well. He urged the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA) and Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council to patronize and take care of the creative youths.
