 75% Pay Hike For Officials Of State-Own Power Cos

Employees of different state-owned power companies are going to get a considerable hike in their salaries The salary is about to be incremented up to 75 percent on an average. As per the decision, the employees will be entitled to the new pay structure from January 1, 2016.

As per the new pay structure, the highest salary will be Tk 1.75 lakh and the lowest will be Tk. 14 thousand. Again the wage will be incremented by 4 percent annually.

The decision regarding this pay hike came on Thursday at a meeting (on Officers and Employees pay structure-2015) of the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Division. All 10 State-run companies related to power transmission, generation and distribution under the Power Division are now entitled to the new salary structure. The State
Minister for Power Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid presided that meeting.

However, some of the employees from different grades have expressed their discontent on the new pay structure. According to them, the structure is not well balanced at all. The gap between the highest grade and lowest grade wage is too large and the wage structure needs to be revised, they said.

The State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid said to the Energy Bangla that the pay structure will be revised and adjusted considering the appeal of the dissatisfied employees. He also prospected that the employees be more serious and dedicated to their task.

Before this, a committee was formed to propose a uniform pay structure for all the state-run companies related to power transmission, generation and distribution. The additional secretary of Power division Dr. Ahmed Kaykaus was the convener of that committee. Later, the committee proposed a draft pay scale for the power division and
the government have finalized it lately after thorough scrutiny. As per the decision, the employees will be entitled to the new pay structure from January 1, 2016 and they will start receiving salaries as per the new pay scale from this July. The dearness allowance will be adjusted with new wage counting from this January.

According to this new pay structure, 20 different grades are approved for the companies of power generation and transmission sector. 16 different grades are approved for the pay structure of Power distribution companies. According to the new structure officers of Grade-1 (Managing Director) from both pay structure will get Tk 1.75
lakh which was previously Tk 1 lakh. The lowest wage for the 20th grade (for power generation and transmission companies) is 14 thousand Tk where the lowest salary for the 16th grade (for power distribution companies) is 15 thousand Tk.

There are altogether 11 thousands 533 of officers and employees in the 10 companies under power division. Among them 2,417 are working at Grid Company of Bangladesh, 1,699 are employees at 6 power generation
companies, 7,417 are employees at 3 power distribution companies.
